Shoemaking Workshops
Sew your shoes!
The workshops I organize are intended for those who want to make and take home their own shoes within two packed days. The course is held twice a month, typically for two students (you can arrange an individual course by selecting an available date with both spots open under your name).
Dates are posted for the entire year in advance and announced in the fall. Starting in 2025, those who are registered on https://obuvnicke-kurzy.reenio.cz will be notified by email about the publication of dates. The current recipient list is outdated, containing people from many years ago, and does not reflect the current interests of the recipients. Interested individuals who are not yet on the list can sign up and unsubscribe if they no longer want to receive the email alerts. Registered participants will be offered dates via email before they are publicly posted. However, the reality is that there are so many interested people that the available dates are quickly filled by those on the waiting list before they are publicly announced.
Once a reservation is made in the system, an invoice with payment details for a non-refundable reservation fee is sent. This fee is transferable to a representative or substitute.
Available or canceled dates (it happens that a student cancels before the course) are listed on the reservation system, where you can also register. To join the waiting list for potential openings, it is recommended to register and check occasionally for any newly available dates.
The first day consists of an introductory theoretical part followed by practical work on the upper part of the shoe. On the second day, we finish up the upper part if needed, and focus on the sole and finishing work to complete the shoes. It is good to think about and inform me in advance about the type of shoes you want to make. I am very flexible, but some things cannot be completed in just two days. For inspiration, take a look at the album of shoes made by participants here and more here
I will immerse you in a wealth of important information, rules, insights, and resources from handcraft shoe production. Throughout the course, I will be there to guide you and ensure that you leave with high-quality shoes that you helped create from the very beginning and influenced the process.
The course lasts for 2 x 9 hours in a workshop located in Dejvice, Prague 6. The price is 10,900 CZK per person for 2 days, including all materials for the product. The remaining 8,900 CZK can be paid by bank transfer or in cash on-site. A 500 CZK discount is available when booking the course for two participants at once (total price 20,800 CZK). The courses are quite intensive, and you definitely won’t be bored. The price for an individual course is 20,800 CZK.
I recommend bringing work clothing or an apron (there is a risk of staining from paint, glue, finish, oil, wax, etc.). For those with long hair, I suggest bringing hair ties. If participants are familiar with working with leather, they can bring their preferred tools or leather. There is a lunch break at a nearby restaurant, and light refreshments are available for those with more frequent eating habits. A small kitchenette is available in the workshop.
There is parking available in front of the workshop in the free zone (on weekends, parking is free along the entire street; on weekdays, it is 10 CZK per hour).
